* NCBI has re-evaluated the nomenclature/organization of this gene.  The results of this re-evaluation shows that all PER3 protein isoforms are the same for the first 359 amino acids, but are all highly variable in the c-terminal ~30 amino acids remaining.  Isoforms 1-3 are not expressed because the use of the earlier start codon marks the mRNA for non-sense mediated decay.  Alignment of a translation of our published sequence with these isoforms results in an artificial c-terminal end that does not match any current isoforms listed for PER3.  This is a relic of the primer design used during the initial isolation of this gene using a stop codon found within the untranslated variant 1 before the relationships within this family were fully known.
